Z99.5 and Live Nation are teaming up to bring back the Uncle Sam Jam. This year's concert will be held July 17, 2008, at The WhiteLies Lawn at White River State Park. Gavin DeGraw and Jason Mraz will co-headline the event, with special guest Marie Digby.
Jason Mraz is touring in support of his latest CD We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things; featuring the single "I'm Yours." His 2002 debut release, Waiting For My Rocket To Come on Elektra Records, was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It contained the hit singles "The Remedy," "Curbside Prophet," and "You & I Both." His follow-up CD, Mr. A to Z, received several Grammy nominations and produced singles like "Wordplay" and "Geek in the Pink." Mraz was featured by ABC-TV last year during their "Ugly Betty" promotional campaign.
Gavin DeGraw is also touring for the first time in four years, following this month's release of his new self-titled CD on RCA/J Music Group. His debut single, "I Don't Wanna Be," from his 2003 CD Chariot, was nominated for Song of the Year by the Billboard Music Awards and Radio Music Awards in 2005. The same CD also produced hit singles "Follow Through," "Chariot," "Just Friends," and "Chemical Party." His music has been featured on hit TV shows like "One Tree Hill." DeGraw's current single, "In Love with a Girl," began receiving airplay from radio stations this past March.
Marie Digby has enjoyed vast grassroots success with her music thanks to the social networking website YouTube.com, where her music videos have been viewed more than 6.6-million times. Her remake of the Rihanna hit song "Umbrella" was one of the most viewed viral videos of 2007. Following this attention, she was signed to record with Hollywood Records, which released her debut CD Unfold in April. This CD features her first official single, "Say It Again."
Z99.5's Uncle Sam Jam will also provide an opportunity for Indianapolis music fans to show their support for American troops stationed abroad. More troops from the state of Indiana are currently active in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom than from any other state in the country. Approximately 5,000 members of the Indiana National Guard are stationed overseas presently, including a majority of members from the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Attendees will be able to sign their name to one of several 12' x 25' "Indiana Supports Our Troops" greetings while entering or leaving the gates of The WhiteLies Lawn at White River State Park. These banners, provided courtesy of Clear Channel Outdoor, will be shipped to Indiana National Guard units in Iraq as well as to Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw, and Marie Digby have agreed to allow several of the songs to be recorded live from the concert. Following the show, they will record custom greetings for our troops, with the entire show to be packaged and made available for broadcast by Armed Forces Radio Network.
