Maybe tennis shoes is a more current term though when was the last time you played tennis in them? I’ve also heard gym or sports shoes or even trainers. Sneakers has been the name most used for the longest length of time but why do we say that? It turns out it’s just as easy as you might think: the rubber sole makes you more stealthy.  You can sneak around quietly in them versus leather soled shoes that tend to make more noise. There.
