Sam Smith came out as gay in 2014, and then as non-binary last year.

But being famous didn’t give them a pass from being bullied online, especially after they changed their pronouns to “they/them.” Sam says, “I wasn’t prepared for the amount of ridicule and bullying . . . I mean, honestly, the comments and the types of things that I have to answer and walk through every day is very, very intense.”
