GO OUTSIDE TODAY: It’s Good For Your Health

Indiana is notorious for the grey, cloudy winters. I don’t remember a winter here where I saw this much sun. It’s amazing! And going outside can make a big difference in your health. You may have heard about Seasonal Affective Disorder (Or SAD) where we get bummed out in the winter time. A lot of that comes from Vitamin D deficiency and if you’re a fair skinned person it can hit you harder than everyone else in the winter months. Now people with darker skin are at a higher risk of Vitamin D loss all year round so they aren’t excluded.  “The D” can also help you fight off infections which we need more than ever right now.

SO! What do you do? Well on a day like today GO OUTSIDE! Throw on a coat and scarf and let the sun hit your face for 20 minutes or so. It will make a huge difference in your mood, trust me. Another option is the load up on Vitamin D rich foods. TheConversation.Com recommends oily fish like salmon, mackerel, or tuna, mushrooms (which btw you can set out in the sun for a bit before eating and get even MORE Vitamin D), egg yolks, Vitamin D Milk or other fortified foods like yogurt or tofu.

But easiest and least fishy? GO OUTSIDE!!

See you out there!
