Can’t Kick Bad Habits? Embrace Them- It Might Help!

When we backslide at trying to kick a bad habit there is a part of our brain that can feel bad about ourselves. We beat ourselves up, tear ourselves down, and feel shame. That can lead to depression and self-contempt. But what if there was a way to not only kick the habit but break that cycle of self disappointment?  EMBRACE IT! Self compassion can help our brains combat that terrible stuff that can come out when we backslide. There are natural ebbs & flows of life so we will never be perfect when we try to tackle something. We will never “not eat another dessert ever again” so accepting that is a big part of preventing the junk that comes after. PsychologyToday.com talks about Safe Brain which allows our brain to appraise and understand the things we are going through rather than hate ourselves for it.   Then we actually do a better job overall conquering our bad habits! So embrace those failures, accept that you’re human, and you’ll tackle them a whole lot easier!
